Fr. Zachaeus Edakkalathoor, after his priestly ordination displayed an eagerness to preach retreats for the benefit of priests and the public. He was one of the first missionaries to Chanda and worked at Balharsha. After returning from the mission, he devoted his time for social welfare activities and served at Kunnamkulam, Madras, Elthuruth, Pollachi, Erode, Coimbatore and Palakkad. He promoted schools and development projects. He also served the province as vicar provincial and councilor. While serving as prior of Bharatmatha Monastery, Palakkad, he was rewarded for his exemplary life with the gift of dying on the death anniversary of St. Chavara in 2001. He was buried at Shoranur.
